As projects become larger, their schedules take longer to calculate. You can speed up operation somewhat by turning off AutoCalc in the Dates menu and using Calculate Now when you want to recalculate the schedule.
Consider reducing the size of a large project by taking parts of it and creating subprojects.

Look at the Resource Table to see the cost-accrual method for each resource. If a resource is a single person, you’ll usually want Single so that costs will be assigned to only one task for any one unit of time (day, week, or other unit of duration). If a resource is a group of people or a piece of equipment, you may want to specify Multiple so that the costs are assigned to each task that uses the resource.
